When you purchase from ORU, you’re not only giving a gift to a friend or loved one, but also to women and children on the other side of the globe.
At ORU, we’re conscious of our impact on the earth. Our wrapping fabric serves as an environmentally-friendly, thoughtfully-sourced alternative to plastic bags and paper gift wrap, which have created tons of unnecessary waste. Beyond that, our goal is to create positive change around the globe.
We’ve partnered with ayzh (pronounced “eyes”), a socially conscious charity in India that has designed healthcare products that both improve and save the lives of women and infants.
Did you know that every six minutes a mother dies due to lack of access to clean surgical tools at the time of childbirth?
Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon to use agricultural tools to cut the umbilical cord in countries such as India, which can lead to infection, and in the worst cases, death.
Zubaida Bai, a mechanical engineer and social worker, created ayzh to give women access to safe birthing kits and decrease perinatal mortality and morbidity. When we learned of Bai’s work, we knew we wanted to partner with her in this mission.
Azyh has designed janma (“birth”), a clean birthing kit, which can be used in homes, hospitals and clinics. This simple birthing kit provides the basic necessities to prevent infection during birth. It consists of a blood-absorbing birth sheet, a pair of sterile gloves, an umbilical cord clamp, a surgical blade, a bar of soap, and a birthing cloth for the newborn. The entire kit is then presented to the mother in a biodegradable purse which she gets to keep. These kits cost just $3 each, yet they mean the difference between life and death for thousands of women and children. Since its creation in 2012, more than 600,000 janma have been provided to young mothers.
We donate $1 to ayzh with every purchase of an ORU wrapping fabric.
Thank you for partnering with us as we help ayzh in their mission to spread hope and life to young mothers and children with the sale of each ORU wrapping fabric.
